From Bro John Young's Heart!

Dear Sunset Baptist Friends:

Great things are happening at Sunset Baptist Church! Our kids have returned from Falls Creek excited with several wonderful decisions made while they were there. Many of those who went to Falls Creek gave their testimony of what the Lord is doing in their lives. Many of our youth are back in Sunday School and attending worship services on Sunday. The Son never sets on Sunset’s youth!

If you haven’t been able to join us on Sundays for worship, we want you to know that attendance in the services is growing and members of the church continue to grow in their faithfulness with the Lord. Please come and join us for the Christian fellowship which we have each and every Sunday. We miss you and want you to be a part of a wonderful, loving, and faithful church. The Lord is surely working and doing great things at Sunset. We need you to come be a part, because

GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME,
and
ALL THE TIME, GOD IS GOOD!

We need you!

With God's Greatest Love,
Bro. John Young
Your Interim Pastor

Matthew Brown Coming in View of a Call
Brother Matthew Brown and his family are coming to Ponca City and to Sunset July 30th - August 1st. Matthew is 37 years old and has been serving as youth minister in Burnet, Texas, for the past seven years. He and his wife Aimee are both graduates of OBU. Brother Matt has a master’s degree from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Forth Worth, Texas, and is currently working on his doctorate from this same seminary. They have three children, Madeline, Gabriel, and Brant. The children will be 8, 6, and 4 in August.

The schedule for 7/30-8/1 is as follows:

  • July 30 at 6:00 p.m.: Meet with the senior adults for a salad supper in the fellowship hall. All senior adults should bring a large salad.
  • July 31 at noon: Meet with the youth for a pizza lunch in the fellowship hall.
  • July 31 at 6:30 p.m.: There will be a cookout in the pecan grove by the bus barn for the entire church family. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and watermelon will be served. Bring your lawn chairs if you would like.
  • Sunday, August 1, Brother Matt will be preaching in both services in view of a call. Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m., morning worship begins at 10:40, and evening worship begins at 6:00 p.m. Please be present for these services.
  • At 5:00 p.m. on August 1, we will have a question-and-answer time in which anyone can ask Brother Matt and Aimee any questions they may not have had answered previously during the weekend.

Immediately following the evening worship service, Sunset will be called into special business meeting for the purpose of voting on whether or not to call Brother Matthew Brown as our pastor. A salary package and job description will also be presented at this meeting for your approval.

After the special business meeting on August 1, the church will have a snack supper in the fellowship hall. Everyone is asked to bring finger food for this fellowship. It is our prayer that you have been praying for Sunset and for the man God is leading to us to serve as our pastor.
